About Paint 3D Lab

On this page

Paint 3D Lab is an independent guide site for Microsoft Paint 3D. We show how the app really works today, and we tell you when something is missing or broken.

Why this site exists

Microsoft has stopped developing Paint 3D and removed it from the Microsoft Store. It still works, and many people still use it. But the help around it fell apart.

When we started, we found three problems again and again:

  • Outdated downloads. Sites handing out an older build, sometimes renamed, with no way to check the file.
  • Guides that were never tested. Steps for buttons that do not exist, and folder paths that lead nowhere.
  • Old stories. Pages still saying classic Paint cannot do things it now does well.

Paint 3D Lab is our answer. One place with the final build, checked, and guides that match what you see on your screen.

What we do differently

  • We offer the final build, 6.2410.13017.0, unmodified, with its checksum and the steps to check it yourself.
  • We test every guide in the app. Each one is written while doing the task on a Windows 11 PC.
  • We use the app's own words. Button names and error messages are checked against the text inside Paint 3D itself.
  • We say "no" when the answer is no. Paint 3D has no layers, no blur and no curved text. Our guides say so, then show what to do instead.
  • We point to better tools when they exist. Sometimes classic Paint, or a free app, does the job better. We tell you.

How we test

  1. Install. We install the final build from the same file we offer, using App Installer on Windows 11.
  2. Do the task. We work through each guide step by step and capture the screens as we go.
  3. Check the wording. Every label and message is compared with the English text inside the app package.
  4. Check the facts. Versions, requirements and file formats come from Microsoft's own package files and Microsoft's own documentation.
  5. Mark what we could not test. If we could not confirm something, the guide says so rather than guessing.

Who writes the guides

Adrian Wells writes and tests every guide on Paint 3D Lab.

Each guide starts with a clean install of the final Paint 3D build on Windows 11. Adrian Wells works through the task in the app, notes every screen and every button, and writes only what the app actually does. Where a common tip online turned out to be wrong, the guide explains what really happens instead. Where a feature has gone, the guide says so and points to the tool that does the job today.

When a reader reports a problem, Adrian Wells repeats the steps in the app and corrects the guide.

How the site is funded

Paint 3D Lab is free to use. It is paid for by ads from Google AdSense. Google chooses and places the ads. Advertisers have no say in what we write. We do not accept payment for reviews or rankings, and we do not use affiliate links.

How ads and analytics use cookies is explained in our privacy policy.
